The last couple of weeks haven't exactly been kind to Matt Lauer, but it looks like he's trying his best to make amends!
Mark Zinni, a local reporter for Fox 8 in Cleveland, Ohio was recently tweeting about his days as an intern at NBC, and when a fan asked about the Today show anchor, he responded:
@concede i was an intern there in '97, his first year on the job... how do i say this....? he was.... not nice.

Yikes! As if his reputation wasn't bad enough already!
Fox 8 executive producer Darren Sweeney sent out a similar message about Mark's experience at NBC, and just like that the tweets spread throughout the internet like wildfire! Gotta love social networking!
The comments eventually found their way to Matt, and in attempt to do some damage control he offered an apology, saying:
@markzinni huh? Always tried to be nice Mark. Sorry you didn'tthink so. Hope you're doing well.Matt

Well that's nice! Although it sounds like the apology came about 16 years too late! Ha!
Meanwhile, Mark, who has become a bit of an overnight Twitter celebrity, tried to clear up his comments and said:
"My answer was more of a joke about being young and naive during my time at Today, but I added that he wasn't nice to me. I didn't slam the guy, I just made an honest comment."
As for Matt's apology, Mark said:
"Bottom line, I was shocked Matt Lauer even bothered with me and, really, he remembers me? I'm flattered."
Ok, so the whole thing was kind-of, sort-of, not really a joke. But it definitely couldn't have come at a worse time for Matt, whose image is already at an all time low!
